Booking.com

I was a fan of Booking.com but in recent years they have become a huge joke in my opinion. I was happy using the company for 5 or 6 years but there were so many bad experiences on my recent trip to Mexico that I have decided to delete my account and never use them again.

Summary

.

  • Inconsistent information on their website

  • Poor customer service compared to other travel companies out there

Inconsistent website and Out of Date Info

.

I had a number of different incidences in which Booking.com seriously under performed and let me down, and each incident was caused by  a number of issues. On one occasion I booked a hostel, went to the address that the website listed only to find I was in a run-down part of town and there was NO hotel at that location. I further looked at the booking and it suggested another address where I could “collect the key”, I went to this address only to find that it also was incorrect (the address said 11B and there was no 11B). Luckily there was a hotel where 11B should have been and a really helpful woman phoned the number on the booking and was told that the hostel was noot even open anymore.

This is just one of the examples of a poor service but the transaction that was the final nail in the coffin is listed below:

Hotel Vero and Hotel Las Palmas

.

On this occasion I booked a hotel at a place called Hotel Vero, which as you can see in the description says it is 1.7 miles from the Robert Brady Museum. This is not true, it is actually about 50km from the museum so makes a big difference to travel plans. We started chatting with the customer service chat and they were not at all helpful, after an hour of sitting in a car park using the car parks wi-fi I became frustrated and decided to just book another hotel (Hotel Las Palmas), which required a cash payment upon arrival.

We arrived at this hotel and they hadn’t received the reservation, but she just charged me cash and said she would sort that out later. A few days after we left the hotel I was also charged on my credit card by Booking.com. After weeks of talking with booking.com they are refusing to give me refund, I was supposed to keep my receipt apparently, rather than trust in a huge travel company. The refund would be for £13 ($15) and when I said that if they don’t refund me they can delete my account I was told “We cannot refund you without any receipts”.

This is not acceptable in my opinion, Booking.com created the problem by having an incorrect description, their customer service was terrible, then when I arranged myself another hotel they charged me twice, not acceptable and I shall actively go out of my way to put fellow travellers off using Booking.com.
